SEREDEC Welcomes 2 New Board of Directors At 23rd Meeting

The Board of Directors of the South East Region Economic Development Company have held their 23rd meeting, scheduled to take place quarterly.

The meeting which held both physically and virtually had a good number of the board members in attendance, enough to form a quorum.

Minutes from the last meeting were read and corrections adopted.

The Chairman in his opening remark highlighted the need for Igbos to gradually start relocating their businesses back home; citing and hailing board members who have started making this big move.

He said his vision is that we can have conclaves of key economic drivers of the region and stakeholders are on ground actually making things (economic development) happen.

Introduction of New Board Members

The Chairman, Prof. Bart Nnaji introduced the two new Board Members – Dr. Abraham Nwankwo and Mr. C. Darl Uzu.

Dr. Abraham Nwankwo is the former D.G., Debt Management Office, with a well of experience in the finance sector. It was under his watch that Nigeria secured the Paris Club debt relief agreement worth $18 billion and an overall reduction of Nigeria’s debt stock by $30 billion.

Mr. C. Darl Uzu is a real estate developer and the top promoter of the Enyimba Economic City. He is also the CEO of Crown Realties Plc; a real estate development and investment company with business focus in residential and commercial properties.

Dr. Abraham Nwankwo and Mr. Darl Uzu thanked the board members for inviting them to join the team and also for the opportunity to serve Igbo land through SEREDEC’s cause.

Prof. Bart Nnaji said the motivation for having these technocrats join SEREDEC Board of Directors is a critical element to SEREDEC’s success.

Highlights of the meeting

  1. About SEES – The 6th annual South East Economic Summit will hold in December 2021. The summit is now semi-autonomous, with Dr. Mark Abani heading it as the Executive Director.
  2. SEREDEC CSR – As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility, SEREDEC has supported Nkata Ndi Inyom Igbo with their interim office space. Nkata Ndi Inyom Igbo is a platform for women to return to the much valued Igbo RoundTable Conversations that is rooted in the idea that from the family unit, kindred to the larger community conversations amongst units or groups signpost the integrative means of getting everyone to contribute ideas, energy and resources to the development of society.
  3. About SEFCo – Dr. Abraham Nwankwo gave an update on the South East Finance Company; stating that the feasibility study has already been carried out by PWC and other arrangements are in top gear.
  4. About Enyimba Economic City – Mr. Darl Uzu gave an update on EEC where he said it is being designed to be the manufacturing floor of Africa. The EEC will also feature a world class health facility in partnership with organizations like the John Hopkins Hospital, Yale etc.

    It was a wakeup call for all Southeastern prominent elites to do-the-said. Youth employment and involvement in politics is key to the rigid pivot of the region affairs.
