So much has been said about the success of Aba and Nnewi industrial progress in Southeast Nigeria. The manufacturing potentials of the Southeast region has drawn global attention. The region is home to several indigenous industrial manufacturing companies. Nigeria’s first car and motorcycle manufacturing plant; Nigeria’s auto part manufacturing factories; the best cables in the world are all situated in the region. Developing and expanding the manufacturing sector in Southeast region will bring about job creation and import substitution and also help in strengthening export, attracting foreign investment and creating platform for innovation.
SEREDEC, in partnership with investors or development aid agencies and the government of the Southeast States, will re-position the region to be the hub of light and heavy manufacturing industries in Africa through development of industrial parks and free trade zones. With the passage of the Local Content Act, aimed at championing the course for higher indigenous participation in the manufacturing sector and the opportunities available from operating in a free trade zone, the Southeast region is better positioned to become a top foreign investment destination in Africa.
